Privacy Policy

Effective Date: April 1, 2026 | Last Updated: April 1, 2026

1. Introduction

Pique ("we," "our," or "us") is operated by Camperdown Strategies. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, and protect your information when you use the Pique platform, including our website, web application, and mobile application (collectively, the "Service").

Our Core Commitment: Your personal information is private by default. We collect only what is necessary to operate the Service, we never sell your data, and we give you meaningful control over what you share and with whom.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address (required for authentication)
  • Display name (chosen by you; may be a pseudonym)
  • Password (stored only in hashed form; we never store or access your plaintext password)

You may optionally provide additional profile information such as your industry, role level, professional interests, city, and a profile photo. All optional fields are private by default and visible only to you unless you explicitly choose to share them through the matching features described in Section 5.

2.2 Usage Information

We automatically collect limited technical information to operate and improve the Service:

  • Device type, operating system, and browser type
  • IP address (used only for security and fraud prevention; not stored long-term)
  • Pages and features accessed, session duration, and interaction patterns
  • Crash reports and performance diagnostics

2.3 Event Interaction Data

When you browse, search, save, or indicate interest in events, we record those interactions to personalize your experience (e.g., improving search results and recommendations). This data is associated with your account but is never shared with other users or third parties in individually identifiable form.

2.4 Location Data

We may request access to your device's location to show nearby events. Location data is:

  • Used only during active sessions; it is not stored or tracked over time
  • Never shared with other users or third parties
  • Never used to build a location history or movement profile
  • Entirely optional — you may deny or revoke location permissions at any time without losing access to the Service

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • Operating and maintaining the Service
  • Personalizing event discovery, search results, and recommendations
  • Generating aggregate insights (e.g., event attendance counts, trending topics)
  • Improving and developing new features
  • Communicating service updates and, with your consent, promotional content
  • Preventing fraud, abuse, and security threats
  • Complying with legal obligations

AI-Powered Features: Pique uses artificial intelligence to power event recommendations, search results, and relevance scoring (including our "Resonance Score" features). These systems analyze your stated interests, saved events, and interaction patterns to surface relevant content. AI features operate only on data you have provided to the Service and do not incorporate data from external sources. Your individual AI-related data (e.g., search queries, recommendation history) is never shared with other users or third parties.

4. "Going" Status and Aggregate Attendance

Privacy by default. When you mark an event as "Going," this information is private to you. Other users will never see that you specifically are attending an event.

Event pages may display an aggregate attendance count (e.g., "42 people going"). This count is anonymous and cannot be used to determine whether any specific individual is attending.

Individual attendance is never revealed unless both of the following conditions are met:

  • Opt-In: You have affirmatively opted into Pique's matching features (see Section 5); AND
  • Mutual Match: Another user who has also opted in has mutually matched with your anonymous profile, and you have mutually matched with theirs.

Without both conditions being satisfied, your attendance at any event remains completely private.

5. Matching Features and Anonymous Profiles

5.1 Opt-In Requirement

Pique offers optional matching features that allow users attending the same events to discover each other. These features are entirely opt-in. If you do not opt in, you will not appear in any matching pool and no other user will be able to see your attendance or profile information.

5.2 How Matching Works

If you choose to opt in, Pique creates an anonymous profile that is visible to other opted-in users at the same event. Your anonymous profile displays only:

  • Your professional interests
  • Your role level (e.g., executive, manager, individual contributor)
  • Your industry

Your anonymous profile never displays your name, photo, email, company, or any other personally identifiable information.

5.3 Mutual Match Required

Profile details are revealed only when two users mutually express interest in each other's anonymous profiles. Until a mutual match occurs:

  • Neither user can see the other's identity
  • Neither user can message the other directly
  • No profile information beyond the anonymous profile is shared

After a mutual match, both users' full profiles (as configured in their account settings) become visible to each other, and direct messaging is enabled between the matched pair.

5.4 Revoking Opt-In

You may revoke your matching opt-in at any time in your account settings. Doing so will:

  • Immediately remove your anonymous profile from all matching pools
  • Prevent new matches from forming
  • Existing mutual matches and associated conversations will be preserved unless you choose to delete them individually

6. Community Channels and Direct Messaging

6.1 Community Channels

Pique offers community channels that serve as open message boards organized by topic, event, or session. Any user may read and post in community channels. Content posted in community channels is visible to all channel participants and should be treated as public within the Pique community.

6.2 Direct Messaging

Direct messaging ("DMs") between individual users is available only after:

  • Both users have opted into matching (Section 5.1); AND
  • Both users have mutually matched (Section 5.3)

DM content is private between the matched participants. We do not read, analyze, share, or monetize direct message content. DMs may be scanned by automated systems solely for the purpose of detecting spam, abuse, or content that violates our Terms and Conditions.

7. What We Never Do

We believe clear commitments matter. Pique will never:

  • Sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party
  • Share your data with data brokers or advertising networks
  • Build advertising profiles or serve targeted ads based on your data
  • Share your direct messages with anyone other than the intended recipient
  • Share your AI search queries, recommendation history, or Resonance Score data with third parties
  • Share your precise location data with other users or third parties
  • Store or track your location history
  • Reveal your individual event attendance without your explicit opt-in and a mutual match
  • Use your personal information for any purpose not described in this Privacy Policy

8. Data Sharing

We share personal information only in the following limited circumstances:

  • Service Providers: We work with third-party vendors who help us operate the Service (e.g., cloud hosting, email delivery, analytics). These providers are contractually required to use your data only on our behalf and in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
  • Aggregate Data: We may share anonymized, aggregate data (e.g., total event attendance, trending topics) that cannot be used to identify any individual user.
  • Legal Requirements: We may disclose information if required by law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request.
  • Safety: We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of our users, the public, or Pique.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, user information may be transferred. We will provide notice before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

9. Data Minimization and Retention

We practice data minimization: we collect only the information necessary to provide and improve the Service, and we retain it only as long as needed.

  • Account data is retained while your account is active
  • If you delete your account, we will delete or anonymize your personal information within 30 days, except where retention is required by law
  • Usage logs and analytics data are retained in anonymized form
  • Location data is ephemeral and is not retained after your session ends

10. Data Security

We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including:

  • Encryption of data in transit (TLS/SSL) and at rest
  • Secure password hashing
  • Regular security assessments
  • Access controls limiting employee access to personal data on a need-to-know basis

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your information, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Your Rights and Choices

You have the following rights with respect to your personal information:

  • Access: You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you.
  • Correction: You may update or correct inaccurate information through your account settings or by contacting us.
  • Deletion: You may request deletion of your account and associated personal information.
  • Opt-Out: You may opt out of matching features, promotional communications, and location access at any time.
  • Data Portability: You may request an export of your data in a commonly used format.

To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at the address provided in Section 14. We will respond to your request within 30 days.

12. Children's Privacy

The Service is not directed to individuals under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we learn that we have collected information from a child under 16, we will promptly delete it.

13. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. For minor, non-material changes (e.g., clarifications or formatting), we will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page.

For material changes that affect your rights or how we handle your data, we will provide at least 30 days' advance notice via email and/or a prominent notice within the Service before the changes take effect. If you do not agree with any material changes, you may delete your account before the effective date.
